Is anyone else having issues updating to the new beta on Steam?
Steam is working for me. What issue are you having?

I have the beta enabled. The game shows an "update" is available, when I select it it starts for a second then stops, never updates. If I go back to vanilla it is fine. When I select the beta branch again it updates but the update Steam icon is still indicated. If I try and launch directly via the .exe it give me an error and shows the steam game page and the update is indicated (where the play button is), but no update is pushed through.

Change History

V1.04.22 – 13th August 2026
New Features and Rule Changes
The game can now use up to 4 GB of memory on 64-bit Windows instead of 2 GB. Long sessions were exhausting the old limit, which is what caused late-session text and graphics failures.
Ha ha ha ... I remember explicitly bringing this up as I always edit the EXE header bit for 4GB capable games. And the response I think Joel (or via Pavel) was a game of this level of graphics could not possibly hit a wall. (one less thing to do now after installing)

Thanks for continuing to work on this game! I have been playing since it came out, and every time I play, I find out there is still more to it!

Oh, what font mods are you using?

My mods are mainly graphical like thicker borders or boundaries between lines between CR report entries. An Wiedrock's epileptic accessibility USSR colors.

I was playing 1080P on a 32" SONY TV. It was okay, but fearing the future especially seeing the big gap opening between 32" and 42", I grabbed a 37" Samsung 4K (productivity) running at 1080P. Originally, I want an ASUS 38" (true gaming). But 60Hz has never been a problem for me.

WITW/WITE2 are now much easier on the eyes.

For old games look for in the task EXE (32 bit) manager, for the non-technical, you can change this yourself easily. Where this most noticeable: older games with memory leaks (you can leak longer meaning play longer) or if you are using lots of graphic mods a few updscaled hi-res graphic mods.

my font tweaks: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 3#p5286313 - WIP (i'm still tinkering ... i'd really like to have col/color definitions in the fontconfig! ;) )

yeah, the lines inside CR were invisible for me as well - tweaked my color setup a little since wiedrock's SOV - brown mod was not consistent over the whole spectrum of buttons and other gui elements (anyhow, wiedrock gave me the idea, so thanks!) - i just reduced the saturation for all SOV colors by 30% to keep the red but a little less bloody to my eyes. :) the AXIS could use some de-saturation but hey, needs only a little contrast in CR lines is all, i guess. now very happy with my colors!

32"? 37"?! 42"?!!!!

i'm playing on my old refurbished x280 thinkpad (with 12.5 inch ...) but for this and other software i'm very happy with my used, old, maybe 3rd hand external 27"display - i could image 37" to be awesome!!! ... but no, no money here to spend on hardware way outta my league! :D

LOL! 32 bit and old games YAY! :D ... anything my linux/wine setup can handle! so much better than AAA titles requesting 12GB VRAM ... not?! hahaha!

yeah, i hear you. use my font setup for WITW as well but tbf the low-fidelity needs some getting used to ... ;)

For those playing MP server games, we strongly suggest you upgrade to this beta, especially if you are about to begin a new MP game. There were several fixes made for MP games, and one of them could be major for anyone starting a new game that may have an issue with their game options due to an earlier upgrade.
