Ageod classical games just outgrew the old AGE engine, esp. in terms of turn resolution time.
Nowadays Pocus is working with a new Slitherix in house engine. The decision which games to make era wise is a business decision. Perhaps popular demand in the forum of a game to be made could tip the ...

I returned the game, I didn't see a slow down option
But there is. 3 different game speed settings. Plus a small mod in Steam Workshop for adjusting the length of battles.
