I've never seen fighters "attacking aircraft attempting to take off" so perhaps this is just one of those things. I don't think it works like that although your own fighters may be able to 'have a go' at the enemy as they climb.

Does anybody know the purpose of the Yak-9s that start appearing in June 44? I have read that they were sometimes used to escort 8th AF bombers on shuttle missions but if they are supposed to be for the Eastern Command then who will fly them?

I have no idea I'm afraid but it would be cool if it did, I would be slightly surprised though. You're more likely to be causing problems to the airfield infrastucture which will then cause problems to the pilots perhaps.

The first time you see it you just sit there grinning like an idiot, then you see the real losses and it's not so good! I still get excited when my fighter sweeps catch interceptors landing though!
