Re: A simple algorithm of modern naval combat

Counterpoints:
1. Submarines
2. Mines
3. Sea power is usually only effective as a method to generate effects on land, where people actually live. If you can't generate the desired effects within the time/space necessary, you have not succeeded, even if you ran the enemy out of weapons.

Regular SAM systems can engage SM-6s in their anti-surface mode in game currently.

Re: What can we learn from the Houthis' successful ASBM attack?

You are making the assumption that every ASBM is fired into the defended area coved by a CRUDES. You can't make assumptions about weapon Pk without understanding the engagement geometry. Certainly possible for weapon detection and track outside of the range where engagement is possible.

Re: ASW Mission and sonobuoys

If press releases can be believed, the USN ordered almost 1M sonobuoys of all types from 2019-2023. The bulk is generally DIFAR, for obvious reasons. As far as I can tell, VLAD hasn't been specifically procured in over a decade - with the preference lately being the SSQ-101/-125 combination to ...

Re: Effectiveness of Shaheed type ASuW drones in peer conflict

You've made some really hand-wavy assumptions about what you can/can't target. Why can't you target the launchers? Why can't you target the munitions stores, or manufacturing locations? Why can't you evade detection? Why can't you target the sensors or kill chain supporting the launchers? At 200kts ...

Re: Wanted - Reading on Submarine Tactics

Submarine warfare is a bit of an art, so there's not a whole lot out there (that's not classified :D ) to work off of, especially since there's been very little submarine combat since 1945, and only a single (confirmed) instance of a "Modern" submarine kill (one sub kills another while both are ...

Re: What do you role-play?

I big one I do for surveillance aircraft or Satellite (especially during cold war) is if a U2 flys over and automatically spots a enemy on the ground I wont attack until the U2 is back and landed and another few hours till the pictures have been processed. I think its a little silly you can just ...

Re: Dual-use radars are too capable

Unless C:MO added different search modes configuration/prioritization, I think the current balance is probably fine. The radar has better multi-mode capabilities, but it's also detecting ballistic threats at sharply reduced ranges. Modern ESA's running BMD detection fences for high-doppler targets ...

Re: For those you struggling with ABM engagements...

Worth noting that there are still open bugs for all Infrared missile warning satellites in the DB - they're limited to 2000nm which basically means that only the STSS entries ever have a chance of detecting missiles. It does wonders when you can detect the missiles early, since then you don't need ...

Re: USAF modern tactical Offensive Jammer (like the Growler)

What is the USAF current tactical Offensive jamming aircraft similar to the Growler?

The expeditionary Growler squadrons are essentially de-facto Air Force squadrons. Similarly, until they divested from the platform, EA-6s from the USMC was one of their biggest and most important ...

Not a question of the scenario, simply using a example. The time limits placed on certain aircraft are lower than what has historically been done with the platforms.

Where should we be posting issues with the new exhaustion times? For example things like El Dorado Canyon are no longer achievable.

Re: Rough field capability

Im just saying, in Ww2 it was a routine thing, after Normandy it took a day to get b 17s there.

While plenty of lighter aircraft (including many WWII fighters) were capable of operating from grass airfields - they generally preferred not to due to the weather restrictions I mentioned above ...

Re: Rough field capability

What others have said is correct - there's a lot of prep work required to get grass strips prepared. In my experience operating light aircraft from grass airfields - the locations are often pre-surveyed and prepared with a roller (and mowed if applicable). There's also substantial risk operating off ...

[1265.1] Exhaustion RTB/Bingo Pathfinding Issues

Admittedly, I'm pushing this new setting to the extreme (hey, I had a scenario idea before this was added)...but aircraft on "RTB - Exhaustion" will fail to path-find and will transit through no-nav zones and will happily bypass tankers on their RTB and run out of fuel and crash.

Run the save ...

Re: USAF modern tactical Offensive Jammer (like the Growler)

Not so much "borrow Growlers", since the force is designed so that there are Growlers available for them. There are 5 VAQ (Growler) squadrons that are "Expeditionary" in that they are not deployed to aircraft carriers, but deploy like a USAF squadron (or VP squadron, for that matter) to land bases ...

RE: Sahel slugfest helo tips

Last time I played that scenario, I mostly held the helos back until I'd attritted enough of the tactical SAMs with AASMs then used the helos to standoff against the armor/arty. They were not as useful in the long run as the train of M2000D's I set up once I had air superiority.
