Was that board game keeping track of individual vehicles, guns and squads?
Exactly - that's why TOAW crushes boardgames. Immeasurably better in every category.

Re: Now I can see how great this game is...

I found the measure of how TOAW crushed board games is that one of the great monster games of the 1970s, Drang Nach Osten/Unentschieden, took up a ping-pong table and it is replicated in TOAW in more of a medium sized scenario.

Same scale, solitaire play, better map, a better simulation, better ...

Re: Campaign Barbarossa v1.032 download patched, tips

It shows on this 1941 RKKA map as well, but I've read that the Germans discovered in 1941 what the Soviets already knew; Don't fully trust the Soviet maps. That's what started this tangent of the thread - me trying not to rely to much on the 1941 maps and why I was using the German 1943 maps.

There ...

Re: Campaign Barbarossa v1.032 download patched, tips

Yes - I see that. So, its a fault in my logic. I assumed the German 1941 maps were more expectation than reality so I avoided looking at them. With the 1943 versions, I assumed "well, now they know what's there and not there" which does not take into account the Germans building a few vital roads ...

Re: Campaign Barbarossa v1.032 download patched, tips

Lobster - on most maps there is shown an actual highway - improved road - from Minsk to Smolensk and on to Moscow - on the north bank of the Dnepr. You have a regular road from Minsk, through Orsha, and to Smolensk on the south side.

Was that not there in 1941?

Re: Imported map image for overlay not showing

The challenge with TOAW maps versus other games is that the TOAW terrain spills over into other hexes - on purpose.

The biggest challenge is rivers - they do not follow hexsides. So, you'd have to erase the rivers. Then it becomes a whole thing - which is where I'm at.

Re: Imported map image for overlay not showing

One size serif gold with a black outline is not attractive. My overarching question is; why do we have to make an aesthetically better map image to sit over the game's map?

Re: Imported map image for overlay not showing

So, am I missing something;

1st - get a map image uploaded to use as a guide,
2nd - make a map on top of the uploaded image that the programming reads and delete that image,
3rd - make a new image that sits on top of the actual map that is attractive - readable place names, river names, rail ...

Lake, I believe there's none, it's just "Water". Makes sense, no reason to use a different hex for what's essentially water.

But there is no "Water" terrain. There is; Airfields, City, Invalid, Marsh, Mudflats, Open Steppe, Farmland ...

Re: AI Scenario Help

Well, AI said that if Lobster had actually included 37mm mortars in Campaign Barbarossa, it would be 338 of the 1,500 pieces. I was surprised that it referred to him by his code name and not his real name, nor the name Bob probably calls him under his breath. Then we went out for a beer.

AI can do ...

Re: Imported map image for overlay not showing

I've gathered enough information to get into detailed battles in Army Group Center versus the Western Front in Summer 1941. I'm working on both games, TOAW and WEGO, concurrently.

That TOAW being hard work getting the OOBs entered is frustrating, and, that Governato and I have talked about the ...
