Channel Islands

I am afraid the Channel Islands don't show up correctly in the game.

It shows up with a rather weak infantry division and a bit of Flak in a Fort 2.

In reality this infantry division had a few addons from navy and air force and Cruishank lists in 1943 24-27.000 and in July 1944 23.500.
Artillery ...

Re: Don't use Jets

I would like to add a big "?" behind my first findings.

The system changed one of my level bomber Geschwader and the results are very different from the first ones I saw.

Last round:23 air victories, 3 losses (none in a2a)
This round: 48 air victories, 3 A2A losses, 12 losses in total
9 fighters ...

It looks like any pilots in reserve don't do anything.

Re: Axis players guide.

I would add:
Don't play beyond 43.
The game does not stay within its own parameters but instead becomes a sort of third player manipulating the game to make you loose. Ideally the game should play out within its own rules between the players, but there are a few important changes that interfere ...

Air XP Sov - strange changes

Dear Forum,

we notice in our game for the second time a strange change of experience for the Soviet side.
With the beginning of Oct 44 the Sovjet player noticed an unexplainable "upgrade" of 5-10 XP for his air force.

The first time we saw that same thing (sometime in 43) it changed the air ...

Re: Don't use Jets

They were part in 3 or 4 ground attacks as escorts.
Air superiority in that area was contested, so there were air combats alternating with the bombing rounds.
I had first swapped 3 or 4 staffs. Results had been not good. At least no losses, but also almost no kills.
So I wanted to see what would ...

Don't use Jets

Dear Forum,

the first game ever to reach summer 44 was thought to be interesting.
My planes had absolute air superiority but that changed without notice. Within a few turns the results of the same units on both sides flipped to the opposite without any apparent reason.
Stumbled me and also my ...

Re: clearify the nonexistant reserve function in the manual

Ground weather?
Terrain?
Rivers?
MP of Reserve units?
Leader Initiative Rating?
Frontline unit-Reserve unit "relationship"?

I don't know - over about 50 turns (when I first noticed it) I have tried everything in order to be able to forecast a reserve reaction.
Same korps, high MP, high CP, high ...

clearify the nonexistant reserve function in the manual

Dear Forum,

after 43 I experienced an unwillingness of my German reserves to react.
Sov reactions were normal to plentiful. Even with mediocre and inf-only units.

I tried to exclude any errors of my side like contact of the reserve forces or low supply/prepardness.
But even with elite units in ...

Re: Upgrades gripe again - esp the Tigers

Being able to micromanage that -like planes- would be great.

Kursk seems to be a historical example where we know that equipment was put in to fulfill a task, not just as a standard unit outfit.

Re: No Oil transport by ship

I'm playing for fun, not primarily for winning and I like this sort of historic what-if that the game offers over many features.
And as my playing partner does the same, we have a game that is not at all gamey.

So it's really about the feature/bug not at all about me being afraid to loose.

Re: New v1.03.09 Public Beta Now Available!

I would have preferred to have less degradation of morale for Germany during the war.
If you read van Crefeld's studies then the effect in the game seems to be degrading morale a bit too much.

to put it into context:

Re: No Oil transport by ship

Besides that Berdjansk is two hexes away from Mariupol, the latter has not refinery either.
Tuapse has no refinery, not as symbol on the map and not in the detail window.
Both, Mariupol and Tuapse have a port, manpower and rail.

Are we talking about the same game?

Re: No Oil transport by ship

I did a short 2 mins research.

Historically there was a refinery in Berdjansk.
The game does not have that.
Berdjansk had a harbour for that and the production was actually used.

In the Caucasus the destruction of the oil wells is replicated in the game.
Historically the production was halted due ...

Re: No Oil transport by ship

I don't think its a feature, I think its a bug.

If you can transport supplies to, then you can transport barrels from.
I would buy into the feature thesis, if there would be any shipment.
But there was 0. The hard needed oil stays in the place where its being produced.
And: there is no ...

Re: No Oil transport by ship

Yes, that seems to be the case.
Supply works perfectly through the 3 ports, but oil does not go the way back.
And that is definitely a bug.
