RE: Extended level bombers off small airfield: design intent?

Small island airfields were used to stage bombers for attacks on Tarawa for one. I can't remember the island in question off the top of my head.

How does this impact the conversation?

some late war strategy questions

<t> I'm curious about Formosa and mainland Japan.<br/>
<br/>
I'm assuming a lot of forces are locked and unmovable from these locations. How to folks tend to approach Formosa as the allied and Japanese player? Reinforce/invade/ignore?<br/>

Do folks push forces into the Philippines to delay ...

I purchased it some a while ago so I could watch it. I used to sit around on Saturdays and watch old war movies on TBS, WGN, TNT, etc as a kid.

Guadalcanal Diary is my favorite of those classic movies.

Yes. I forget the name of the son that died but I took a picture of the memorial plaque for the Wasp for my neighbor that aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots point. He worked in the engine gang I think as a boiler man.

RE: LCI/LCT question

So how these craft are used will change with AE? Good news. LCVPs were not used as fleets to do assaults but as craft loaded aboard the AP's Ak's as you guys well now. Something about a 'fleet' of a couple hundred landing craft sailing across the Pacific just seems wrong to me.

Japanese Navy in the Indian Ocean theatre

<r> Just finished reading Gerald Astor's <U><s></s>The Jungle War<e></e></U>. He makes a statement towards the end about the lack of allied resources for a Rangoon invasion and the strength of the Japanese Navy in the region. <br/>

My question is just how much did they keep there? The ...

Bit related, but are Malaria Zone bases handled differently now related to morale etc.?
Good point. As I recall there were islands that were not developed as bases because the islands were so infested.
