<t>Came across something a bit strange the other night in the communist china OOBs - it seems to me that most of the other nations use "ammo carrier" to refer to one of those magical equipment shops of wheels that carry any and all types of ammunition, however in the CC it is used as a label for a ...

I tried zapping the steel.prf file, but that made no difference. The WWII Long campaign save still locks up when you hit the 'continue' button.

<t>same problem here - started a new world war II long campaign (UK in east Asia), fought two battles and now am unable to load in the second save properly - the machine just locks up. This is on a fresh install - version 4 complete and then all other successive patches.<br/>

<t>I finished the WW2 campaign playing as the UK. Got kicked out of Belgium and France with mt tail between my legs. Coughed in the dust of North Africa suffering from the Italians incoming 380mm artillery shells. Saw the first grass hex since France in 1943 as I hopped over to Italy - I got an ...

100+ command ratings

<t>Well, I finally hacked my way through to the end of the British long campaign. It felt quite good to return to France with Churchills and Crocodiles after my ignominious defeat there in 1940 when the Germans just laughed at my 'mighty' Mark VIs.<br/>

<r>here is a page that seems to deal with your question, from the British perspective. I can remember being quite surprised at seeing a photo of a Muslim (?) SS unit one time... I will try and remember where I saw that one.<br/>

UK-model infantry tactics

<t>Something I have never mastered in this game is the problem of trying to maintain platoon cohesion in infantry units based on the British infantry model. The platoon will be composed of an HQ squad, some three rifle squads, and a small mortar. Late war Polish infantry and some of the other ...

<t>I'm still soldiering through a British long campaign which I have been playing in spurts since one of the really early versions. In this it is now common place for a unit to be destroyed and the replacement (from the fix/upgrade screen) to retain the same level of experience, morale, and command ...

Personally I don't think I managed to raid all the hexes successfully - IIRC I hit the buildings with bombardments which shook out some of the units, who then rallied and grabbed a hex for the Germans...

<t>There is definitely a penalty to movement - more so in the ETO than in the desert. In Asia infantry units can get slowed down to one hex per turn, even in clear terrain. Battles fought in these conditions can be real slogging matches... you can see those unguarded victory hexes, 300 yards away ...

<t>Thank you Mr. Wilder,<br/>
I had a great time with the campaign. I started with a tank corp and met with disaster by the end of the second battle - two draws did not give me enough point to repair anywhere near enough to even bother showing up for the next round, and so back to the drawing board ...

<t>Yup, infantry seems to be doing the job for me too. 2 companies of rifles, some HTs to carry them, 2 mech engineer platoons, a couple of recon squads, lots of AT teams, an FO and six or seven scout+s. Score so far: draw/dv/dv/dv... but this next one looks really nasty.<br/>

I know this would be easy to ...

How about a hotkey for save game that can be used during the AI's turn (yeah, I know, I'm a wuss for playing against the machine)? It can be mighty annoying to have an infantry ambush all set up for the oncoming tanks when the doorbell starts to ring...
