the manual

I have been away from the game for a while and I`m trying to find out the most important changes since the manual was written (v5.0).
Especially I´m looking for information about the version 8 (I have alittle about v6 and v7). Where can I find it?

starting date

<t> I have been away from the game for som time and in the new update (8.4) there is one thing I can´t find. <br/>
There was a file, I don´t remember the name ( .ini something), where you could change the start date and country so that you did not have to do it every time you started a random ...

RE: odd problem with 8.4

<t> I have not been playing spwaw for a long time. Upgraded to 8.4 and got into the mouseclicking artilleryproblem. It was very annoying. I rememberd the forum and went there. And what do I find in a few minutes?<br/>
The problem described and at least for me the solution. Set the mech.exe to run ...

line of command

If I have a force in a scenario (where I have not arranged the forces myself) how do I find out the line of command? For example, a mortar unit BD0: which unit is the next superior in the chain? It could be A0 or a company commander in the chain below A0. Is there a simple way to find out?

I was a little disturbed in the beginning because it was difficult to see the units, especially in the middle of battle with all the smoke and mess.
But - it is a great feature, because it adds realism. I have stopped using flags and figures to increase visibility of units.

Strange units in MCNA

<t>There is a problem with some units in the Malta scenario in MCNA (why is it called MCNA and not MCDF?). It resembles what happened in some scenarios in the beginning of Desert Fox for which it was a patch.<br/>
Unit E0 and AL0 is just empty assault boats in the harbour. And E0 is also loaded (at ...

Loading multiple units (again)

<t>I have a problem with loading multiple units on barges and other landing crafts with high loading capacity. In MC scenarios (in MCDF Malta for example) where you are supposed to evacuate your forces you need to use the whole capacity of the barges.<br/>
I can’t figure out how to load the second ...

I think that later versions has made the smoke more variable in density.
Thus it is possible to see through several hexes of smoke, especially in good visibility (like in your case).
I also think that the smoke, even if you can see through it, makes hitting and spotting less probable.

The topic is already well covered. I take the liberty to summarise the important points, in my opinion:
1. move slowly when risking to meet fire (1 hex, never 2)
2. use the mortars, 50 (or 80 mm)
3. use your engineers
4. You need several platoon to dislodge one

Just started to fight my way trough the desert, and then, if I survive, I will be sent to the east front just to loose victories.
Where to find the time to struggle through the jungle too?
Despite the fact that I play games on the computer I only have one life and one wife!

Curious! I just tested it. There is no sound when firing with the F key (and only that gun by using C).
If you use the z key to fire into a hex there is a sound!

<t>It&#8217;s extremely important for the killing effect of any fire, and not the least artillery, if you can caught the enemy moving in the open, or in por defensive terain. That&#8217;s why an artillery attack in the right moment can brake off an attack. If the enemy is in a good defensive ...

You shall select the target first. That is T and if it is the right target T again (If it is allready the selected target you can go directly to C). Then C, and select the weapon.

<t>I tried to make it a little more balanced. The mech comp and one 105mm how battery is enough to take the hill in a frontal assault, even if the hill has excellent defensive terrain and a FJ platoon with 50mm mortar support is the defender (together with the PzIVH and Panther and 2 75mm AT). That ...

Stuart has a point. The arrival turn is superimposed other data, I have seen it several times, and it fooled me the first time.
I think that is the explanation, so the figures actually mean turn 6 or 8 instead of 60 to 80.

<t>This has been discussed recently without any good explanation.<br/>
It has to do with indirect fire (z key or B key). If you order that to a unit the message appears and it disappears if you move that unit.<br/>
It might remind you that you have ordered a mortar to fire so that you don&#8217;t ...
