<r> I have to agree about the anti-Limey stuff - you'd think they'd be more sympathetic what with Tony being George W.'s big mate and so on........<br/>
My thoughts:<br/>
Bill Slim - best British general of WW2....should be much higher in the ratings<br/>

RE: release in uk

Why wait? I bought it five minute after release via Digital River using ISDN.....no problems and it works perfectly and plays like a dream. Do it...you know you want to.

RE: Best Modernized Treaty battleship?

Warspite...definitely. That's if you judge a battleship by things like effective gunnery, actual performance etc rather than numbers in a book. She was a star.

You're right about the Akyab battle - my superior tactics beat the computer, but then I beat it at football, basketball etc. I'm just too scared to play PBEM.<br/>
As for the Yamato, it arrived off Lunga one morning, took 16 1000lb bombs and 4 Beaufort torpedoes, stayed overnight ...

Losses were acceptable, mainly damaged. Probably due to low Jap supplies and high disruption and fatigue, though I like to think my B24Ds popped up in a hover like AH64Ds, with just the radar peeping asnthey let fly with the Hellfires....whoops, wrong game!!!!<br/>

RE: Overland Supply

<t> I think I can help with this. I had a 3 month standoff at Akyab in late 42 with 100000 troops on each side. When I landed a Chindit brigade 1 hex south of Akyab and marched them inland to cut the track from Rangoon, the supply to the Japs at Akyab dried up. Three more weeks of deliberate and ...

RE: Ideas please!!!

<t> The Battle of Akyab is over - 8th Jan 1943. I rested my troops for two days, set the altitude of my bombers to: Wellingtons and B24s 4000ft, B25s and other light bombers and fighters 100ft. After 2 days of that, and the 6 BB bombardment, I set a deliberate attack which resulted in 3 to 1 and the ...

RE: Ideas please!!!

<t> The land supply route to Akyab is the road/track from Rangoon. I cut it over a month ago in 2 places, and it has stayed cut. A couple of times they have tried resupply by sea, and I've sunk the lot. I have total air superiority........there's not much more I can do. <br/>
I would think by now ...

RE: Overland Movement of Resources

<t> I have a question about overland movement of supplies/resources. Can I interdict transport routes by bombing them, to slow down movement of stuff or destroy it, cutting off or depleting land units? I have captured Akyab as allies in Sept 42, and have 2 divs in a standoff with 4 Jap ones. Can I ...

RE: Painful Lessons Learned Thread

<t> Don't rely too much on history. I'm playing as allies v AI in the 42B campaign...Guadalcanal. Not wanting a repeat of Savo Island, I unified the CA/CL/DD task groups. As a result, the US marines attacking Tulagi did so without the support of San Juan and 2 DDs. Result: serious damage to APs ...

RE: Help!!!!!

<t> Be a teacher. Today I spent 2 hours watching 160 16 year olds doing an exam, and while supervising them I sat with a large sheet of paper and worked out whether I could initiate the Central Pacific thrust starting in the Marshalls in Sept 42, or whether it was too ambitious. The exam finished 5 ...

2. AI totally ignores what I am doing for about 14 days, but bombards an almost ...

I don't know how accurately the leaders are supposed to be portrayed, but "Admiral" Wavell? You've got to get him right. James Somerville was one of the RN's best - can he be beefed up a bit? Of course, you guys don't have much to do right now...............................[;)]
