Re: Defending Burma (vs AI)

In my first campaigns I defended at Pegu using 17th and 18th divisions plus 1st Burma and some of the Indian brigades and then reinforced and outflanked using the Australians. The AI goes exactly as Hans Bolter describes. This is fun to a degree in that it creates lots of naval combat around Rangoon ...

Re: having trouble with air transport

For some irritating reason the engineer element of the 1st para doesnt air lift so you always have a fragment that has to go the hard way - same for 50th Indian paras if I recall

Re: How to keep PM and Rangoon in supply?

Agree with Bella and BBFanboy

I have had good results with single or pairs of AKLs getting into Rangoon against the AI against air opposition. As mentioned some level of CAP is handy to cover the final run in. Using Chittagong or Calcutta also makes for a shorter and safer approach too. Be warned ...

Re: Reasons for stockpiling devices

Commonwealth Units especially require careful husbanding of resources - if you are not careful you can find precious armour being sucked up by New Zealand mounted units when you really need it to fit out Indian armour. 25 pounders and 6 pounders are also in great demand and you will need to husband ...

little triumphs

Been playing this game for a decade and still love it and recently started yet another AI campaign (Da babes scenario 30 because it gives me RN Monitors!)

The detail as well as the broad scope continues to reward and this game I would like to note the creation of two aces in 22 squadron flying ...

No Mutsu incident yet but I did lose 3 tankers to careless smoking in my last game, 2 near Los Angeles and one near Colombo
Plenty of groundings and losses but only during amphibious assaults

Re: Movement turning into Shock attack

A defended river crossing is always a challenge and this simulates that. In the game the assault on Singapore is the big one, especially if the British have been able to withdraw forces into the city/reinforce. Best to wear down defenders with air attacks and take our supply, but sooner or later ...

Re: AMERICAN CVE's

I would also add that whilst jolly useful a lot of CVEs dont equate to a full carrier group - their slow speed and lesser AA make them more vulnerable to Japanese airstrikes. They also have airgroups that are Wildcat based (Sangamons being honourable exceptions). As others have said they make for ...

Re: Allied Capital Ship use Early War?

Agree with the responses - the temptation as the allied player is always to 'do something'. The top flight players have often said that they exploit this tendency. And it is a real temptation when you have a bunch of battleships swinging round the buoy to go and blast something. In my current ...

A careless cigarette costs lives

I have been playing this game for many years and still new things crop up

I have just lost two tankers to 'accident' in as many months. One off Cochin and one of Lahaina. Never had this happen before

Irritating to lose two perfectly good tankers in early 42. Cool to see the game ai doing its thing ...

Re: Bombardment- does it do anything?

Ground bombardment is very useful as it causes attrition, disruption and supply usage whilst your infantry and armour are a preparing for their next attack or recovering from their last one. In hexes which are open and with little in the way of forts it can be devastating if used on mass

No it isn't and it would have no effect on the game in any practicable terms even if it did. Morale of the American population is not a concern!
