Re: [WAD] ADM-141A TALD not treated as hostile

I think this is the automatic classification of guided weapons when detected by radar. There is no ambiguity whether a contact is a weapon. If someone fires a missile, it will show up as a guided weapon on first contact. If TALDs were class identified as guided weapons the same as those missiles ...

Assigning a course to the Tomahawk against the fixed target (#12) and allowing a tick to pass, no final leg.

No Final Leg.jpg

Assigning a new course to the Tomahawk against the mobile target (#13) and allowing a tick to pass, creates a final leg.

Has final leg.jpg

The result is that when #12 ...

Re: Assigning a new course to a datalinked weapoon does not generate a final leg.

No changes to this in .17, if the guided missile reaches it's final waypoint without the target in sight, it will close the datalink and fly straight ahead. I did some further testing, and it seems that this only affects weapons fired against "fixed" targets, such as buildings (or for some strange ...

Harop attack speed does not vary on distance like torpedoes.

When attacking a target with the Harop drones, the speed of the Harop is not adjusted depending on how far the target is. Torpedoes from submarines do adjust their speed depending on the distance to the target. See the scenario below, where the closer Harop can be instructed to go to millitary speed ...

Assigning a new course to a datalinked weapoon does not generate a final leg.

Version: 1328.15

When a new course is plotted for a weapon with Datalink midcourse updates that is not identified as a loitering munition, it will not turn towards it's target, and if it's out of seeker boresight it will not hit.

See in this attached scenario if you update the SLAMER to have a ...

What about this scenario? It's basically an amplification of the late maneuvering by the SM-3 that causes them to not reach their target.

That's interesting, could you share the scenario?

The scenario was uploaded by Kobu in the first post.

Re: SM-3 missiles

This is what I am seeing with the DF-26 test scenario from the OP. The SM-3 won't maneuver when the DF-26 does, and stays on it's original course until it is nearly too far past the target to catch them. Any more off axis of an attack and it likely would never catch them. It begins maneuvering to ...

Excessive "Locked on Target" Weapon Logic messages in message log

Version 1328.15

When weapons drop their datalink, they start sending "Locked on Target" messages. In some cases they can send excessively large numbers of messages about being locked onto every target they can see. Here is a save from the Korean Missile Crisis that demonstrates this behavior.

You ...

Disallow manual resize of rows in aircraft, boats and WRA tables

I’m going to go through and report or re-report some small bugs and issues that have come up for me.

The tables for aircraft at airbases and WRA have rows that can be user resized. Once long ago the auto resizing of the rows caused a major performance issue. While the auto resize was disabled, they ...

Re: SM-3 missiles

Well, even in that case there is still objectively an issue with the intercept ETA when selecting a SM-3 missile against a ballistic target. The ETA is way too short. I reported missile intercepting targets using their airspeed as ground speed for the intercept location back in 2019 so it’s not a ...

Re: SM-3 missiles

I have some suspicion that this has something to do with the weapon maneuvering calculations against high altitude targets. I saw some strange lags in maneuvering during the scenario I tried.

Possibly if the intercept is calculated assuming the full target speed is ground speed, it may also ...

Re: SM-3 missiles

One issue on top of the CEC issues between radars is that the intercept point is being calculated using the airspeed of the target as ground speed.

See this screenshot where the SM-3 is going directly towards an intercept point, calculated based on the target having a ground speed of 8033 knots ...

Calculated missile intercepts always assume the target's speed is all ground speed. Not much impact against aircraft, but it does affect BMD intercepts significantly.

Re: jamming?

One other thing to keep in mind is that seeing Jammed over a unit does not tell you how severe the janming is to that unit’s sensors. It could be that the unit can’t see anything even at point blank, or it could just be a very small reduction in strength in a particular bearing. Even modern ...

Weapon seeker sensor data through datalink.

I was watching a video on the Walleye guided bomb, and one of the pilots who used the weapon said that they would follow up a strike with a walleye, and then record the video from the missile datalink for BDA, then target it against whatever was still in one piece.

Re: Great resource for understanding Command's ECM model

It was my mistake to mention the F-22 in relation to towed decoys. I had meant the F-35.

I am not sure where the 4-5 dBsm of the decoy comes from, but I suspect with active signature enhancement, they can get higher radar returns than that.

Re: Great resource for understanding Command's ECM model

Here is one reference I have seen regarding stealth and ECM (as well as Towed Decoys). Starting at the end of page 50. I don’t know of any real life examples where decoys have been used by stealth aircraft successfully or unsuccessfully, and performance in testing of these things is likely to be ...
