RE: Retreating entrenched infantry

<t> It's reasonable for even entrenched units to lose cohesion under fire, especially heavy indirect barrage. Noise and concussion affect the ability of even individuals in close proximity from communicating. Having to take cover in the trench means being unable to see either the enemy or the other ...

RE: COTA PLATAMON

<t> I'm a bit late to the party - but the reason the scenario victory conditions are set up that way is because it's how the Kiwis effectively 'won' the real battle. If I recall the official histories correctly (it's been a fair while), it was a particularly brave effort as their engineers were very ...

LOL. Thanks for the plug, but I've been out of the loop so long I can barely remember which side used the 6pdr ;-)

Game looks great so far, obviously none the worse for my bowing out!

RE: Sarantaporon Question

<t> This scenario was intended very much as a tactical exercise, of the sort you encounter during officer training - hence the name! It might be a short and relatively simple scenario but it is not easy at all.<br/>

you may find what you are looking for in the task settings - if you set the loss threshhold to minimum, you'll find the formation will report when they have taken casualties.<br/>

RE: Tough Scenario

<r> By the time the Thermopylae battle took place W Force had already made the decision to withdraw. With the surrender of Greek forces in Epirus the left flank of the position was hanging in the air, rendering it untenable for a prolonged defence. In the event the Allies succeeded in breaking clear ...

On the other hand, in COTA, I've seen PzJäger ("tank hunter") units, consisting of PaK units and using a symbol that looked like a StuG or like a late self-propelled gun, where the latter has not been used/built in 1941.

RE: Maps and Scenarios

<t> You hit on another key issue for scenario balancing - objectives. Even if one side is grossly outnumbered, the right mix of objectives can make a big difference. For an example using a historical scenario, take a look at the two missions based around the Allied counterattack at Maleme - Kiwis ...

RE: Sarantaporos - tactical exercise

<t> Direct fire support units like these would often be used to engage suspected or likely enemy positions, something which doesn't happen in COTA where only spotted enemy units are fired at. There are all sorts of complications in adding this type of fire into a game, not least of which is ammo ...

RE: Unit Editor and Others

There is a separate tool used to add new estabs. Adding 'units' per se is done in the ScenMaker, but you are limited to using the thousand-odd unit estabs already in the game.

<t> Reinforcement schedules will accomplish all of that. You have a number of different schedules for each reinforcement level and each schedule has a different mix of units and a different place of arrival. All units arrive via the schedule instead of being placed on the map.<br/>

Mechanical breakdown is not modelled. If there was a tank missing, it either surrendered or you killed it.

The second scenario sounds interesting. Brit units would probably be drawn from the North African theatre so look at those first, followed by units that were in Britain at the time.&nbsp;

RE: Some advice pls?

JudgeDredd, your best bet for maps is probably either the British Library or the Public Records Office. If the Army made maps of the area in WWII, you should be able to get copies scanned for you. There is normally a charge for that sort of service.
